Evolution Traverse Gear List

Evolution Traverse Gear List:

  • Black Diamond Distance 15 Pack.                                      Weighing in at only 13oz, this pack is light yet mighty. Not quite as durable as I’d like (the mesh on one of the front pockets tore before we even started) it worked pretty well considering I shoved three days worth of food, bivy, and climbing gear in it...

  • Down Puffy

  • Patagonia R1

  • Black Diamond Alpinist Hoody.                                                 Kept it clipped to the outside of my harness. Super light and easy to pack.

  • Misty Mountain Harness

  • Western Mountaineering 1lb Quilt.                                              This was an attempt to save weight. I borrowed my friends sleeping bag and I regretted it pretty quickly. The latching system was super hard to do- especially when tired, cold, and suffering from AMS. So, I ended up using it as a down blanket; this proved to be very cold. I would rather have taken my Sierra Designs Cloud 20 (1.76lbs).

  • Thermarest X-lite Pad 2/3 Length                                              Super warm and comfy. It is super slippery though and a pad cover would’ve been nice to hold me in place.

  • Patagonia Rock Pants.                                                                    An awesome alpine pant. Light, yet warm and flexible

  • Sol emergency bivy.                                                                         A great little one person emergency bivy. Super light and warm. Weighs only 2.8oz! Vital to have anywhere in the high country.

      x2 30m Half Ropes @ 7.5mm
Most of the time we were only doing 5-15m rappels, so we wouldn’t waste so much time flaking out 60m of rope. They were also a great way to share weight through the whole traverse. It’s also a thick enough rope that it doesn’t tangle in itself; as well as it feels like a real rope when leading on it. (We only short roped a few sections of the Golden Triangle, but it was nice to have).

     1/2 Toothbrush and toothpaste
The alpine toothbrush was actually a home DIY.

     Small lighter and Stove
We carried a BPS stove which weighs only 28g- however, because were melting snow for our water, we wasted quite a bit of time waiting for the water to boil. In hindsight would’ve rather sacrificed the weight for something more efficient.

     Snow peak titanium pot

     ATC Guide+ Edelrid Locking Biners

     4 Cams:
A number 1, .75, 2, And 3. All Black Diamond Ultralights with small Camp nano biners.

     50 feet of Technora
Extremely light and strong, yet easy to tear.

2 Four Foot Dyneema slings and 2 90cm Slings

      Tyvek 4x6 Ground Tarp

      Chapstick, 2 Bandaids, Diamox, Advil

That's Everything I brought/ carried. There are a few things I would do differently- a warmer sleep system would be the first- that I change in later traverses and make life easier.

Safe Travels,
Noelle
